The Activities of "Literary Translation between Transmission and Creativity... Anani as a Model"
Under the Patronage of Prof. Sherif Yousef Khater (President of Mansoura University) , Prof. Ashraf Tarik Hafez (Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research) and the Supervision of Prof. Waleed Elshenawy (Dean of the Faculty of Law), Prof. Ibrahim Abd Allah (Vice Dean for the Faculty of Law for Postgraduate Studies and Research) ,Prof. Mohamad El Alfy (Director of the University Development Center (UDC) & Dr. Samah Elsaid -UDC Deputy Director, The University Development Center, in cooperation with the Faculty of Law, Mansoura University, organized the activities of "Literary Translation between Transfer and Creativity... Anani as a Model" on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at the Sanhouri Auditorium, at the Faculty of Law, to inaugurate the translation competition in its first session, which was launched by the University Performance Development Center, represented by Authorship, translation and publishing unit.
The event focused on the importance of translation as a key factor in transmitting different cultures. Culture and development have also been linked, as the eleventh goal of the sustainable development goals and its fourth goal focus on preserving cultural and human heritage. The activities were divided into five panel discussions and two sessions. The first panel discussion dealt with "The Western Influence on the Emergence of the Egyptian Theater...Mohamed Anani as a Playwright" and was lectured by Prof. Asmaa Ahmed El-Sherbiny, Professor of English Literature at the Faculty of Arts and Rapporteur of the Standing Committee for the Promotion of Professors and Assistant Professors. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Samah El-Said, English literature Lecturer and UDC deputy director .
While the second panel discussion dealt with "Literary Translation between Text Restrictions and Freedom of Creativity... Anani as a Model." Prof. Bashir El-Essawy, Professor of English Literature at the Faculty of Education, and Prof. Islam El-Sadi, Professor of English Literature at the Faculty of Arts, gave a lecture. The discussion was moderated by Prof. Nermin Ahmed Gomaa, Head of the English Language Department at the Faculty of Arts, Delta University and the Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs.
While the third panel discussion dealt with the topic of "The Path to Creative Writing", in which Prof. Dr. Abeer El-Gamal, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages at the Faculty of Education, lectured, Prof. Basma Hosni, Lecturer of English Literature at the Faculty of Arts, and Prof. Amani El-Diasti, Assistant Professor of English Literature at the University of Beirut. Damietta, as a panel moderator.
The fourth panel discussion dealt with "The Path to Poetic Translation from English... Anani as a Model", in which Prof. Barsoum Fikry, Professor of English Literature at the Faculty of Education, lectured, Prof. Islam Al-Sadi, Professor of English Literature at the Faculty of Arts, Dr. Dina Ramadan, a Lecturer of linguistics at the Faculty of Girls, Ain Shams University & Dr. Eman Obeida, Lecturer of English literature and director of the Authoring, Translation and Publishing Unit at the University Development Center as the discussion moderator.
The meeting concluded with a panel discussion entitled "Voices of the Literature Academy Youth", which included young academic staff members in the field of literature and dealt with the challenges they face in the field of specialization and scientific research. The seminar included Dr. Heba Waddah, a Lecturer of English literature at the College of Education, Dr. Amani Al-Diasti, Dr. Eman Obeida, Dr. Dina Ramadan, and moderated by Dr. Samah El Said.
The activities also included an introductory session about the competition, which was conducted by Dr. Iman Obeida, and a session entitled "How to be a Successful Translator" in which the lecture was given by Prof. Abdullah Al-Btebsy, Professor of English Literature at the Faculty of Literature, Mansoura University, and Prof. Mohamed Fawzi Ghazi, Assistant Professor of Textual Linguistics at Alexandria University. During the meeting, it was decided to extend the period for submitting translated works to May 5, 2023 as a maximum for those wishing to participate. The arbitration will take place during the month of May, and the arbitration and announcement of the winning teams will take place in June 2023.
The event was organized and coordinated by the University Development Center team in cooperation with E-Mates Mansoura University and the Mahrousa student team.
